Reviews

“Heather is very well organized and systematic in her approach to perfuming, but there is still this great aspect of creativity involved, which makes it all so rewarding. You learn a great deal, the time is very well used, the location is great and the space is very clean, well designed and comforting. I got a good overview of some of the science of scents, which was awesome, but then you get to dive into creating your own scent with expert guidance. It really is quite a privilege - I know I would have no other way to have access to so many great scents to play with AND very clear guidance. And, no joke, I have been stopped by someone to say how good I smell every day since I created my perfume in the class. It is a cool, unique experience. Highly recommended.”

“If I could give this experience 10 stars, I would. I didn’t really have any expectations coming in. If anything, I just expected to throw a bunch of different scents into a bottle and call it a day. Instead, I got an incredible, in-depth lesson about the art of perfume making from Heather. She not only gave us background information on some of the materials we were using, but she also led the class in a strategic way that allowed us to understand what we were doing without feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of scent options. I had such an incredible time, and I loved the final product I ended up with. I was really hesitant going in about whether or not I would actually be able to create something I’d like, but Heather really guides you in a patient, strategic, and helpful way. You leave with your own ADORABLE bottle of perfume and even a little book of perfume-making tips that Heather made herself. I definitely plan to come back with friends. Thank you, Heather!”

“I absolutely loved spending a few hours learning about perfume and making an incredibly unique fragrance for myself! Heather was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and this experience is well thought out and organized. This was recommended to me by a friend and I can absolutely see why, every one of us who attended had a great time and left with something very personal. I’m writing this the day after the experience in a bit of euphoria enjoying my new scent! Thank you Heather, everything was perfect!”

Your Instructor

Heather D’Angelo is a San Francisco-based perfumer, musician (with the band Au Revoir Simone), and ecologist. The dream for Carta originated while she was collecting botanical samples from the Malaysian rainforest as part of her research at Columbia University. After several years of working with plant-based aromatic compounds, she developed an understanding that scent, like music, is a transformative instrument. Both have the arcane power to suspend moments and places in time.

With Carta, D’Angelo explores the artistry of perfume through her mastery of musical composition and ongoing scientific inquiry. Rooted in her passion for environmental conservation, D’Angelo’s romance with scents is shaped and driven by a commitment to conscious practices and a desire to share the stories behind Carta’s ingredients.
